Turris Rosacea, the villa on the hill of the noble Antonini family

Our wonderful villa is more than 400 years old. A fascinating story, deeply linked to the territory in which it was built.

The position of Torre Rosazza is particular, for many centuries the ancient road that led from Aquileia to Cividale del Friuli, passed close its "ronchi", that road connected the sea to the hills and the Abbey of Rosazzo, the center of agricultural life of the past.

It is therefore not surprising that before becoming a noble residence, it was a medieval fortress of control and defense and the remains of this past are still widely visible thanks to the loopholes that characterize the facade and the battlements visible in the inner attic.

But who turned this medieval fort into a noble villa? The Antonini, one of the most important and powerful families of Udine: Turris Rosacea, as they called it, became their perfectly equipped hillside villa not only for everyday life but above all, suitable to welcome the family and its guests.

The ancient part of the cellar where the wine was kept for the consumption of the family dates back to that time. It may be the Pignolo but certainly the Picolit already known in Roman times. Picolit is a historical wine, a complex grape variety that gives a few flowers and therefore few fruits, so the production is always poor, but the results are always extraordinary, a true and noble Friulian gem.

Picolit, a friulian gem.

"I don’t think there is more noble wine in Italy than this. Its qualities would make it what for France is the Chateau d'Yquem."
Luigi Veronelli
