The Estate:
an outpost on wine
an outpost on wine
Once a fortress that dominated over the valley, now a winery with eyes looking toward the future, and always dedicated to winemaking.
The Torre Rosazza villa
The estate is located in the hills, in the initial part of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, just a few minutes away from the Abbey of Rosazzo. The villa was originally a medieval fortress protecting the streets below. Transformed into a residence by the noble Antonini family in the 17th century, it has been completely renovated and today is the main building of the estate: a villa whose details reveal its centuries-old history.
The Winery
At the foot of the villa is the Torre Rosazza winery. Today subject to restrictions by the Monuments and Fine Arts Department as the whole villa, the winery has undergone numerous changes over the centuries. Initially used for agricultural storage, it has been dedicated entirely to winemaking since the 1950s, and it has undergone continual technological innovations. In the 1980s we introduced “cold” for the processing of white grapes and, shortly after, with the AltroMerlot project in the 1990s, there has been an increased use of 225-300 liter wooden barrels, smaller than the classic Friuli casks. A complete renovation and the adding of small stainless steel tanks was done in the 2000s, to ensure the best management of the grapes grown and harvested in the ronchi.
The Vineyards
Here we call them “ronchi”: pieces of cleared land on the hills, formed into terraces and used for vineyards. At Torre Rosazza the ronchi surround the villa, creating a natural amphitheater.
The estate’s first vineyards were planted here in the 1970s, and today there are 80 hectares planted with grapevines.
Red grape vineyards
These are on the upper part of the hill, with the best southwest exposure to favor the complete ripening of the grapes.
White grape vineyards
The vineyards for the aromatic varieties have colder, northeast exposures, where the temperature variations between day and night are more pronounced.
Ribolla Gialla vineyards
They are the highest vineyards, rich in sandstone and with optimal exposure to winds. The perfect place for growing Ribolla Gialla: here the grapes can be harvested later, giving more structure to the wines.
Picolit vineyards
They have been carefully planted across the estate aiming to the best exposure. Among them, the one of Sedreara sotto il Palazzo was planted in 1978.
Hospitality is in our blood
A travel crossroads, a meeting point for people and cultures, Friuli has always been a hospitable land. Its openness to the world is found today at our estate, which is ready to welcome visitors for wine tasting, a food and wine tour, and a tour of our wineries and our vineyards. Here you will see the most beautiful sunsets in eastern Friuli.
Strong in our history
We have always been connected with all of Friuli. Our history is that of our land. A borderland, a crossroads of cultures, an outpost of modernity. A story in which wine has always been the main character.
Friuli wines with a modern soul
At Torre Rosazza we make fresh, contemporary Friuli wines, obtained through the meticulous care of the vineyards and attention to preserving the typical characteristics of each individual variety. All this so that we can give all the beauty and complexity of our land back to those who drink them.
