Refosco is an ancient native red grape vine from Friuli that’s very widespread and highly appreciated. Behind its apparently rustic character, it hides a great capacity for generating great wines characterized by their extreme elegance.
These are the last of the red grapes to be harvested. After crushing, the marcs are left to macerate in contact with the musts for a week in large steel vats at temperatures ranging between 25° and 28° C. Frequent pumping over allows for optimal color extraction and good wine body. Malolactic fermentation is carried out and the wine is placed in 30-hectoliter casks for approximately 6 months. An in-bottle refining stage follows, which lasts at least 4 months.
Intensely ruby-red, it boasts shades of violet. The nose will delight in its ample bouquet recalling cherry and blueberry. It appears pleasantly rustic to the palate and its rough edges seem to melt away leaving space for more complex aromas where ripened fruit is well matched with an extremely elegant tannic texture. With just a hint of spice at the finish, it maintains a good level of freshness and persistence.
This wine is perfect when served with meats from grilled steaks to pork chops, green pepper fillet and jugged lamb.
